Welcome to the May/June 2022 news sheet

And a huge welcome to all our new subscribers we met at the St. Leonards Kings Road market. Thank you for your time to chat and discuss the environment, plastic, recycling, forensics, our own plastic use/wastage, big corporations and their part in end consumer issues and more. It is our chats that keep us going. The month of May sees the start of outdoor markets, fairs and festivals, and Strandliners will be appearing at some near you. Do come and say hello and watch out for the interesting activities!

The Greenpeace Big Plastic Count

The Greenpeace #BigPlasticCount starts Saturday 16th May. Join more than 150,000 people from across the UK in the biggest investigation into household plastics ever!  The Big Plastic Count kicks off in less than one week – are you signed up to be part of it? If not, there is still time! Here’s the Greenpeace link.

Every family, every person, every household will be able to send in their results, This could be one of the most important plastic waste campaigns this year. We can all be part of it.

Future Events

Eastbourne Spring Water Festival – Saturday May 14th (Eco fair on Western Lawns) Come and discuss micro plastics, activities include a plastic knowledge challenge, pretending to be a toilet (!) and the large tub of micro plastics. Alongside Strandliners, other stalls include PlasticFree Eastbourne, Eastbourne Greenpeace, Eastbourne Climate Coalition, Vegan Society and more. 9am to 4pm.
Eastbourne Spring Water Festival – Saturday 21st May (Microplastic event at Holywell beach)
We are inviting everyone to slow down and discover our microplastic legacy at Holywell, Eastbourne on Saturday 21st May from 10 am to 3pm.
Become a microplastic detective.
Magnifiers and tweezers provided (but please bring a microscope if you have one!).
The exhibits will be primary & secondary microplastics from Cuckmere Haven,
The task will be to find the treasures and identify the trash,
Strandliners with a Studio on The Beach arts happening.

Rother Environmental Group – Talk by Southern Water at 7.30pm on Tuesday 31st May, to be on Zoom. Barry Woodham (bathing water) and Robert Butson (misconnections) will be talking, this will be followed by a Q&A session. If you wish to attend, please email: info@rotherenvironmental.org.uk and you will be sent a link ahead of the meeting.

Fairfest – Sunday June 5th (Fairlight Recreation Ground)
