Welcome to the June/July 2022 newsletter

It does not come easily but I have to mention this, I have been chosen by The Royal Voluntary Service to receive the Platinum Champion Award and have written something on the Strandliners Facebook page and website, but the summary is that I would not be able to do what I do without all of you.1st to 7th June is Volunteers Week – everyone who gives time for others creates a better world for all. This week celebrates everyone’s achievements, without all who join Strandliners events, help with the planning & preparation, uploading data, social media, admin for the events, we would not be where we are now.

We estimate that for every 2 hour event it takes between 15 and 20 hours to support pre- and post-event. Without a team who give so much that would be impossible. If anyone feels they have time, expertise and would like to join our “family” please email, who knows how far we could go!Please do come to one of the events where we have a stand, have a chat and discover some of the strange activities we are presenting to the public!

We will also be running some beach & river surveys & clean ups which will be advertised in these monthly news sheets before they go public. Some events will also have a maximum participation due to the nature of the sites. If you wish to get involved before we have a chance to be near you, please look at the links at the bottom to find a group near you.

If there are any questions either join our monthly chat (below) or email StrandlinersCIC@gmail.com.

Our new postcards

Our postcards show some of the treasures that can be found on our beaches, as well as a horrific reminder of the global use of plastic from oil extraction to consumer items.

Past events

Eastbourne Spring Water Festival – Saturday May 14th (Eco fair on Western Lawns) The plastic knowledge challenge and pretending to be a toilet (!) were very thought provoking activities. And a great audience too. A good event organised by Plastic Free Eastbourne.
Eastbourne Spring Water Festival – Saturday 21st May (Microplastic event at Holywell beach)Magnifiers and tweezers were out in force where we became micro-plastic detectives! We were identifying primary from secondary micro-plastics and discovering micro-treasures.
