Future Events
Brand Audit Survey, River Ouse
Sunday 14th July, 10.00 am to 12 noon
This will be a pick and survey along the banks of the Ouse in Lewes. We will be comparing the data with previous surveys and will produce a ‘Litter DNA’. Kingfishers were seen here! Please register here if you would like to take part. Full details (including meeting point) will be sent out nearer the time.
Community River Watch – Rother
This new project will build on ways we can be involved as a community in looking after the health of our rivers together. We will take people along their local stretch of waterway for wildlife walks and surveys, promoting health and well-being, and our citizen science surveys will involve simple water quality monitoring, and the data used to build a picture of river health. Dates and venues to be confirmed. Please email if you would like to know more.
Community River Watch – Eastbourne & Pevensey
Strandliners will be engaging communities in surveys including wildlife, birds, river health and simple water quality monitoring. The data will populate an interactive map and will be compared to data from Blue Heart’s automatic water monitoring stations and other organisations such as the Environment Agency. Dates and venues to be confirmed. Please email Strandliners if you would like to know more.
Pett & Fairlight – volunteers needed now!
The Future Landscapes Trust is looking for volunteers who would be interested in simple monthly riverbank surveys and waterway monitoring in the area. All training provided. Please email Strandliners if you would like to know more.

Awareness Days
Plastic Free July
Plastic Free July is a global movement that helps millions of people be part of the solution to plastic pollution. Will you sign up and take part by choosing to refuse single-use plastics? Small steps can make a big difference. Find out more here.
Shark Awareness Day – July 14th
Sharks have often been misunderstood and vilified. But they are a diverse and fascinating group of creatures. We are encouraged to champion sharks and help create lots of positive change for some of the ocean’s greatest wonders. Find out more from the Shark Trust.
World Nature Conservation Day – July 28th
Human activity has made a huge impact on the environment, depleting natural resources and adding pollution. The day is dedicated to raising awareness of the importance of protecting our planet’s natural resources and biodiversity for future generations.
What to look for in June
This month we are asking you to look out for sea glass. Where does it come from? What colours have you found? You can read more on our blog.
Past Events
We were blessed with sunshine (and a stiff breeze!) for our survey at Dungeness in June. Thanks to our gallant volunteers, we found over 400 items in our 100-metre survey and removed a total of 154.15 kg of rubbish from the beach – a new record for Dunge. Well done team!
