What We Do
Strandliners’ volunteer activities range along the coast from the River Cuckmere in the west to Dungeness in the east; from Pett Level and Camber Sands on Rye Bay, up the River Rother to Brede and beyond.
We survey for plastic pollution through identification, and record the data for organisations including the Marine Conservation Society, Break Free From Plastic, Surfers Against Sewage and FIDRA. All the time we identify and record plastic in the environment we become more aware of this pervasive issue. Read more.
Our big project for September/October was the Brand Audit survey from the River Rother. Read more.
Why We Do It
If we want to stop plastic pollution, we need to know what it is and where it comes from. By creating a data-rich picture of environmental pollution, we can begin to put the steps in place to stop it. Beach cleans are great for awareness, though they are only a stop-gap.
There can be many sources of the rubbish we see on our beaches and along the river banks, litter dropped on the beach and inland, lost fishing equipment, poorly managed waste systems, sewage related debris down toilets and more.
What We Can Do For You
Do you need someone to give a talk? Do you need someone to give training or lead a beach survey? Do you need someone to deliver a team-building day? Strandliners may be able to help. Just send an email outlining your requirements.

“Acknowledging our love for the living world does something that a library full of papers on sustainable development and ecosystem services cannot: it engages the imagination as well as the intellect. It inspires belief; and this is essential to the lasting success of any movement.”George Monbiot
